Soulframe Is the Next Game From Warframe’s Digital Extremes and It’s Inspired by Princess Mononoke

Soulframe is the next game from Warframe developer Digital Extremes, and inspired by Studio Ghibli’s “Princess Mononoke,” this new project is like a “mirror universe version of Warframe” set in a fantasy world.

As reported by The Washington Post, Soulframe was announced during TennoCon 2022 and is headed by Warframe’s director Steve Sinclair, who has resigned from his current role to realize this new adventure.

Soul Frame is a free open world adventure “greatly influenced by nature, restoration and exploration themes,” alongside works such as Princess Mononoke and The Neverending Story. These inspirations help teams build a world that is an “industrial-natural clash.” As a result, the world is uncomfortable with the players who occupy it.

“Conceit [in ‘Soulframe’] The world itself is a little angry about what happened. And the rationale below that tends to change all day long, “said creative director Jeff Croux. “So proceduralism will occur in the cave networks and crevasses below the world.”

The game is still in the early stages of development, but Sinclair shares that Warframe focuses on player-versus-environment collaborative combat and procedural generation environments. In addition, Soulframe is a “proper and strange view of fantasy,” unlike Warframe’s “sci-fi genre meat mecha-powered spins.”

That’s not the only difference.

“Where Warframe focuses on shooting, it focuses on melee attacks,” Sinclair said. There are many similarities to the genres we have experienced. “

Soulframe appears to have a very open hub world similar to Warframe’s new open world planet, but with a greater focus on exploration than its predecessor. The team also wants it to “instantly make the player feel more lively.”

Given that the game is called Soulframe, Digital Extremes may also seem to be inspired by From Software’s Dark Souls or Elden Ring. But that wasn’t the plan they originally planned.

“I don’t think it’s certainly the inspiration for the first idea or what we wanted to do. Ironically, the other titles we borrowed from Warframe might have had some sort of opposite effect. Maybe, but’Elden’Ring’was absolutely the subject of some conversation — maybe related to the camera, maybe related to how good their fighting pace is. not. [‘Elden Ring’] It was absolutely wonderful. “

The “basic concept” of soul frames began to emerge in the studio in 2019, and until February this year, only a very small team of mostly artists was working on the studio. So why did Digital Extremes decide to announce the game now?

“Our work was very community driven,” Sinclair said. “It’s dishonest not to say [players] Who is leading the changes and “Warframe”? In fact, it’s too early to announce the “Soul frame”! But in terms of transparency and ensuring that they understand our thinking, we tend to be much more open than most studios. “

Sinclair and Crookes also said they have no plans to silence for years, as some of the games announced tend to be too early, instead planning to “look behind the curtain” to fans as soon as possible. Stated. In addition, “Digital Extremes Die Hard will be able to play the” Soulframe “version within a year. “

“What we want to try is to do the same as” Warframe “. So, “Hey, watch us make the game, get the rough parts, and tell us your feelings,” Sinclair said.
