Star Ocean: The Second Story Remake Announced for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Steam

The remake of Star Ocean: The Second Story, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, launches on November 2nd on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC via Steam.

Announced at the Nintendo Direct in June, the game is a complete reimagining of the original with a modern take on the original pixel art that blends 2D and 3D graphics.

This science fantasy RPG follows Claude C. Kenny and Lena Ranford as they become embroiled in a sinister conspiracy within the galaxy. Players will also meet a dozen potential allies who will further strengthen their cause.

Battles take place in real time with graphics reminiscent of Octopath Traveler. The trailer also showcases airships, 2D cities, and all of his 90s RPG goodness.

In an 8/10 review of the original version, IGN stated: “Star Ocean is a game like no other. It’s so well optimized that he’s bound to become one of the PlayStation classics.”

There were plenty of other announcements at the Nintendo Direct, including a new 2D Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a WarioWare game for Switch, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remastered, and more. See here for all announcements.
