Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Meet 8 of Cal’s Enemies | IGN First

A good action game can make the difference between life and death based on the intensity of combat, but combat mechanics are only part of the equation. Equally important are the enemies that test these combat mechanics. As such, one of the things that most interested him when visiting Respawn was the enemy designs for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Luckily, Design Director Jason de Heras and Production Director Kasumi Shishido took us through some new enemy types that decided to get in the way of Cal Kestis.

Early on, Respawn’s team wanted to incorporate more droids into the fold as far as the enemy went. Indeed, Jedi Survivor is full of fighting droids, from the weak manger-like “Roger, Roger” B1 battle droid to the formidable droideka (also known as the prequel film’s cool Roller his droid). According to Shishido, the droids give the team a lot of latitude in terms of what they can do and what weapons they can use. Let’s check out some of these droids individually and talk about what went into their design.

B1 droids cover the role of “fodder” enemy archetypes on the planet Kobo. They are as weak as possible, dropping into a single saber slash or reflex blaster shot, but are still a dangerous threat, usually found in large groups, due to their range and tendency to hit Cal while attacking. may become. Go off screen. Most notably, though, their jokes are hilarious. Respawn has really stepped up the game when it comes to making enemy dialogue interesting in Jedi Survivor. You will be rewarded with a good laugh.

The B2 droid is the bruiser of the droid family. They require a fair amount of hits to take down and can pack a powerful melee punch, but are armed with both blasters and missile launchers to deal damage from a distance. It’s not over, but once you learn to time your parries in melee, reflect blaster shots, and always be on the lookout to force-pull missiles, you’ll fall into this really awesome place.

The BX Droid is one of the more agile droids, flying around the battlefield and being an elusive target while also regularly dodging attacks and performing a multi-hitting spin technique that puts your melee combat skills to the test. There is no doubt about that. These droids are canonically shown to use Vibro Swords to fight the Jedi. According to the team, it’s actually a perfect mid-level opponent, able to face Cal without feeling too fragile.

droideka

Roll, shield, shoot, repeat.

They may colloquially be known as “destroyer droids” or “prequel rolling droids”, but they are actually called droidekas. I haven’t had a chance to come face-to-face with these in my own playtime, but from what I was told by design director Jason de Heras, fans should expect them to behave as they’d expect from a movie or show. “They have a bubble shield. It’s a classic thing for IP, so we have to use it. You can’t permanently stunlock it because you have it and you’re rolling and you’re actually incorporating it into your melee attack,” he said.

IG-100 Magnaguard

<p class=A “senior elite” type enemy whose combat ability is tested.

The IG-100 Magna Guard is a very formidable foe that is instantly recognizable to any big fan of the Clone Wars series. These are General Grievous’ elite bodyguards, and as such, they are highly skilled melee fighters who can give the Jedi the odds. De Heras describes the Magna Guards as “superior elite” type enemies, capable of attacking, defending, countering, and attacking with a strange rhythm to try to throw out their own counters.

shield trooper

Scout trooper with slightly higher survival rate

The Shield Trooper was born out of a simple need. The team wanted to scout him a trooper to survive a little longer. But like almost all enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, there are ways to defeat them. You can hack their shields with your lightsaber and eventually knock them out, but that leaves you vulnerable to other enemies around you. You can try to get around it and slash your back, but they’re generally good at chasing you, and you’ll have to find a way to distract them. The ideal way to deal with them is to depress the force pull to pull the shield away and have Captain America quickly return. There are many moments like this where you can use your power abilities to your advantage.

DT sentry droid

The moment I met these guys is real "oh ****" for a moment.

The moment I first met these guys, I was like, “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!

The impetus for developing the DT Sentry Droid was the team’s need for a large, savage enemy. So Respawn turned to Star Wars Rebels and found this guy. One of his DT sentry droid appeals as an enemy is his ability to use different loadouts. This enemy he has 3 variations to fight with. Some have staffs and missiles, some have hammers, and some are equipped with blasters. De Heras also said that these are one of the few droids that can cut off one of their limbs. I added that it is one.

KX Security Droid Enforcer

The KX Security Droid Enforcer appears in Fallen Order and is famous for being a droid that likes to grab and smother. However, this particular variant is equipped with Scout his trooper’s weapon, Stun his baton, so choke his slam is not executed. The story behind it is that these droids were used as trainers for Scout his troopers, so they are basically three times as dangerous for Scout his troopers. De Heras said he wanted his KX droid in Survivor to be a brawler-type enemy that could block and counterattack, and was thinking of making it his style of hybrid enemy that could also grab you. However, it is common to mix such archetypes. Maddie for that design.

This is just a small sample size of the enemies a player may encounter during their Star Wars Jedi: Survivor journey. In addition to all manner of hostile wildlife encountered on various planets, there are still other human factions like the Imperialists and Bedlam Raiders found on Kobo. : Stay tuned to IGN throughout February for just a snippet of our ongoing coverage of Survivor.
