Starfield’s Pickpocketing Will Make Things Way More Intense by Playing Out in Real-Time

Players who enjoy stripping Bethesda’s NPCs of anything of value (often literally) won’t find it so easy in Starfield, as pickpocketing occurs in real time.

Unlike previous Bethesda games such as Skyrim and Fallout 4, time doesn’t stop in Starfield, giving space thieves an extra level of intensity when scouring the pockets of pathetic NPCs.

From a Reddit post Octane 2022 shared some previously unnoticed gameplay of Starfield. The player is shown sneaking up behind an unsuspecting guard while plucking items from a person.

Players don’t have time to constantly consider the odds of getting an item (which is displayed along with the odds of alerting NPCs), and the stakes increase significantly.

Some users have wondered if this means that unlocking also happens in real time. “I wonder if unlocking will be the same,” baw2112 said in a reply. “This is in the Dying Light and adds quite a bit of anxiety when trying to lockpick with bad guys nearby.”

Starfield is probably the most highly anticipated video game release in recent memory, and as such has captured the attention of fans in wild and wonderful ways. For example, people talked about virtual sandwiches being stuck at 30 frames per second, but ESRB ratings revealed drugs, in-game purchases, and jetpack sex.
