Summer Game Fest 2023: How to Watch and What to Expect

IGN’s Summer of Gaming has officially begun, with events continuing through Summer Game Fest 2023 on Thursday, June 8th. With E3 canceled, Summer Game Fest promises to be one of the biggest events of the season. Jeff Cayley’s show premiered last year’s hits like The Last of Us Part 1 and Marvel’s Midnight Sons, so this time it’s a particularly compelling in-person live event. Surprises are definitely possible.

If you’d like to attend the Summer Game Fest, we’ll let you know where you can watch libsetream and let you know when it starts. Let’s speculate a little bit about what happens.

Summer Game Fest 2023: What to Expect

Summer Game Fest is an in-person event at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California, so many publishers have signed up for the event, including CD Projekt Red, Square Enix, and Xbox.

So while we’re sure to see trailers for upcoming games like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI, this line-up combined with a live crowd makes it the perfect time to debut a “world premiere.” If you’re looking for even more speed, there’s also a Day of the Devs focused on indie-his games and developers.

Sony will be at the Summer Game Fest, too, but it’s just weeks away from May’s Playstation Showcase, so don’t expect a huge first-party title to drop. The same is true for Xbox, but with the company confirmed to be attending the live show, it’s possible that some of the highly anticipated game reveals will sneak into the show. So, while we may get to see parts of Starfield, that game will have an entire show of its own this year.

Either way, we get a glimpse of what is perhaps the best game 2023 has to offer, and maybe even a glimpse into the future.
