Super Mario RPG Remake Isn’t Bringing Back Original Director

Nintendo won’t bring back the original director of Super Mario RPG for the Nintendo Switch remake.

according to reports euro gamerChihiro Fujioka has revealed that she will not be returning for the remake, but she is still excited about it.

Fujioka told fans on the show, “I’m not involved in the remake.” twitter who asked his involvement. “However, I am very surprised and delighted by this news.”

Developed by what is now Square Enix and released for the SNES in 1996, Super Mario RPG told the story of Mario, Bowser, and Peach as they set out to restore Star-Lord, granting their wishes.

Fujioka won’t be returning, but Nintendo is looking to bring back at least one other member from the original development team as beloved video game composer Yoko Shimomura has announced her return.

The remake was announced at the Nintendo Direct in June, and Nintendo promised to overhaul the original game’s graphics when it launched on November 17th.

“Originally released on the Super Nintendo, ‘Super Mario RPG’ has been completely revamped with new graphics! Along with Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and the original characters Marou and Gino, it is full of twists and turns and treasures. Join us in this RPG,” the announcement reads.

There were plenty of other announcements at the Nintendo Direct, including a new 2D Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a WarioWare game for Switch, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remastered, and more.
