Tears of the Kingdom: Nintendo Explains the Sequel’s Dungeons

The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom of Tears contains dungeons with “various localities”, each with its own look and feel.

Revealed in a developer interview Nintendo websitethe Tears of the Kingdom development team has finally confirmed that the game will depart from Breath of the Wild’s divine beast-style dungeons, which were criticized by some fans as being a bit too much of the same.

Technical Director Takuhiro Dota says, “We’ve created dungeons that match each environment, so I think people will enjoy the diversity of the regions.”

“The dungeons are huge, each with its own look and feel for each region, just like any traditional Legend of Zelda game.”

This was further expanded upon by art director Satoru Takizawa, who revealed that Tears of the Kingdom’s dungeons are more similar to those featured in previous games such as Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.

“It was quite a challenge to create such a wide variety. The four Divine Beasts were dungeons from the previous game and had similar designs,” Takizawa admits.

“The dungeons this time around are gigantic, and each has its own regional look and feel, much like traditional The Legend of Zelda games. was certainly a challenge.”

Tears of the Kingdom’s third trailer featured a 0.5-second glimpse of what could be a dungeon, along with some footage of traditional-looking bosses, but Nintendo has confirmed that the classic dungeon will be making a comeback. This is the first time I’ve done it.

Game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi teased how one of these dungeons starts, revealing that it makes the most of Tears of the Kingdom’s new empty area.

“There is a dungeon that is directly connected from the surface of Hyrule”. “If you jump straight into the dungeon from the sky, an event will occur. I think it will be a new experience that was not possible in the previous game.”

With Tears of the Kingdom just days away from its May 12th release, Nintendo has been slamming the long-awaited sequel, including that it always planned to use the Breath of the Wild map. It’s slowly but surely revealing a lot.

Of course, we also know that Ganondorf will be back and played by Matthew Mercer. It will likely include some of Breath of the Wild’s biggest side quests, but will be set several years after the original.

Tears of the Kingdom also includes the already-legendary NPC called Buckethead, a reference to classic Nintendo toys, and an enemy from Ocarina of Time. All of this contributes to the largest file size of any first-party Nintendo Switch game and a hefty price tag of $70, but Nintendo promises it will be worth it.
