The Art of Octopath Traveler Revealed by Dark Horse Books

As far as JRPGs go, nothing beats the engaging visual style of Square Enix’s Octopus Traveler. Of course, the series is a natural choice to join the ever-growing Dark His Horse lineup of video game-themed artbooks.

The Octopus Traveler art is taken from the Japanese art book Octopus 2016-2020. This English translation mixes the creator’s behind-the-scenes commentary with hundreds of gorgeous illustrations and concepts of his art.

IGN can exclusively debut the unfinished covers of The Art of Octopath Traveler below:

Art of Octopus Traveler covers the original game and its mobile prequel, Octopus Traveler: Campions of the Continental. Here’s the official description of the dark horse in the book:

Discover what lies beyond the horizon! Join the travelers on their journey through Orsterra and discover their unique origins. Explore fantastic landscapes full of amazing creatures and scenery. Contemplate inspired designs and artistic passions through hundreds of stunning art from the creation of the critically acclaimed Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.

The Art of Octopath Traveler is a 224-page hardcover, priced at $49.99. The book will be released at bookstores on December 12th (Tuesday) and at comic shops on December 13th (Wednesday).

Octopus Traveler 2 was one of IGN’s 44 games to watch in 2023. IGN’s Seth Macy recently gave the sequel her 7, writing: It doesn’t hit as hard. Not much has changed about its combat. This sequel comes a little too close to the original system without expanding too much. That said, the combat system is still a lot of fun, exploiting weaknesses to knock out enemies, stun them, and then satisfy as much power as you can. “
