The Blade Runner Game Remaster Was So Unpopular That the Devs Added the 1997 Version

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition was released last week, so developer Nightdive Studios has added the original 1997 version for playback on Steam instead.

With the update of Game Steam pageNightdive co-founder Daniel Grayshon announced that the 1997 version has been rebranded as the Classic version and added to the $ 9.99 package as a free update.

“Free updates are automatically downloaded, and when you launch Blade Runner from Steam, you can choose to launch the enhanced version or the classic version,” said Grasion. “There is also an option to play Blade Runner with restored content left unused from the original game.”

Blade Runner Classic is actually a fan-created 1997 re-release of the game, recreated using the ScummVM engine to help restore hard-to-play games to a more or less original form. It’s been available on GoG for over two years, but now it’s also available on Steam.

The Enhanced Edition is currently rated “almost negative” on Steam, with an overall score of 35/100 at the time of writing. Criticism focuses on the look of remasters, new fonts, newly added bugs and audio glitches.

“This is not an” enhanced “edition of the game,” said one community reviewer, Tom Britton. It’s actually much worse and lacks some of the original minor touches. Please do not buy this version. Another user, Monroe, said, “It’s what the original game looked like when my eyes were full of tears in the rain,” and Damokles advised players to “just play the classic version.” ..

In the same update, Grayshon suggested that the Nightdive team is aware of the issues and plans to address them. “We are considering all the feedback on the game and are working on the first official patch for the game that will be released as soon as possible,” he said.
