The Last of Us: Predicting Season 2

This article contains complete spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2. If you’ve never played the game and want to avoid spoilers for the HBO TV show, stop reading now!

HBO’s The Last of Us is an undeniably successful TV adaptation of the beloved Naughty Dog game. The challenge for creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin is how to tackle the emotionally complex beast of The Last of Us Part 2. A rough overview of what can happen in each episode.

Since the video game sequel is twice as long as its predecessor, cramming it all into just one more season of TV seems a bit of a stretch, so let’s assume this will be a two-season story. Besides the length issue, Part 2 definitely needs more work than a near-straight retelling of Part 1. This is inherently unfeasible for TV shows. But I think there’s a way to effectively tell a layered and divisive narrative by restructuring the story a bit and using flashbacks liberally.

The key will undoubtedly be how Season 2 begins, deals with the story’s intriguing incidents, and keeps viewers connected to the plot’s two leads, Ellie and Abby. My best idea of how to do this is to take Abby, a character who was barely explored until the second half of the game, in the first half, led by Ellie, by creating an existing bond between them. Abby was able to infiltrate Jackson’s community and befriend Joel weeks before his revenge. It’s something that seems to play with the idea that some will work.

I also make use of a series of cold-open flashbacks that tease the story of young Abby, with brief openings to each of Netflix’s Mindhunter episodes revealing that the mysterious man we’re watching will become a BTK killer. Just like you do… a zebra. These glimpses of Abby’s background eventually revealed that Joel was the man who killed his father at the end of season one, and the second season of the show the game offered at the halfway point. Allowing you to end up with the same important twist as the .

The format for the entire season is now established. These are my best guesses as to how each episode of the show will unfold. Please call me.)

Episode 1 – Jackson Part 1

Season 2 begins, much like the game, with Joel admitting the truth of his choice to Tommy at a house just outside the Jackson Settlement. We seem cornered until a couple arrives to help them – they happen to be Abby and Owen. not. At this point, she is badly injured and in no position to complete her mission, she accepts Joel and Tommy’s offer and returns to Jackson to patch it up.

The days progress as Abby and Owen integrate into Jackson’s life. By the time Abby makes a full recovery, we are introduced to Ellie’s friends, Dina and Jessie, and life seems to be going relatively well. After Abby and Owen are convinced to stay with Jackson despite their insistence that this is not their life. Proving they can handle themselves in combat, Joel and Tommy offer to take the pair out on patrol to teach them the ropes. Ellie and Dina also start their own patrols. The episode ends as the two groups exit the town gates and through the snow he diverges in two directions.

As they fight and eventually escape, Abby tracks them down here on their way to Jackson and she says she knows where they can take refuge for the night.Joel and Tommy agree to comply. increase.

Back with Ellie and Dina, Jessie arrives and finds them in a sticky situation, and a love triangle begins to take shape. He comes to help them get through the blizzard, but mentions that Joel and Tommy haven’t heard from him on the radio for a while, a worried Ellie despite insisting Dina and Jesse are too dangerous. , she stubbornly goes out looking for Joel. When Joel and Tommy arrive at an abandoned lodge, they are ambushed by a small group and knocked unconscious. The episode goes black.

Episode 3 – Goodbye Jackson, Hello Seattle

After chasing Joel from his last location, Ellie is fascinated by the lights emanating from a nearby lodge. She heads to the basement to find Joel in considerable distress and is forced to watch Abby kill him. .

Back in Jackson, Ellie mourns Joel and sets off to find and avenge Abby despite Tommy and Maria’s advice. Ellie heads there with Dina when Abby’s misplaced belongings with Jackson suggest she’s from Seattle. They arrive in Seattle, where they learn that a group called the WLF calls the city home.As they race through the streets in search of clues, an explosion throws them off their horses, ending the episode.

Episode 4 – Eastbrook Elementary School and Channel 13 Television Station

Ellie is held hostage in a classroom at Eastbrook Elementary School by members of the WLF whom she recognizes from the night Joel was killed. He intends to keep her there while he waits for backup, but she is attacked by Dina shortly after making the radio call, Ellie kills her captors and places a map of the city on his body. I found The couple decided to head to a nearby television station as their next port of call.

They find the station abandoned and littered with the corpses of WLF soldiers. Their bodies were pierced with arrows and surrounded by cult paintings. A distant flute quickly turns into an arrow, and the two decide to risk their lives to escape. They escape to a nearby subway station, where they must make their way through a clicker-filled tunnel. After surviving such a near-death situation, they set up camp at a movie theater, where Ellie reveals her bite and immunity to Dina, and Dina discovers that she is pregnant with Jesse’s baby. I will clarify.

Episode 5 – Birthday present

While thinking about the future birth of Dina’s baby, Ellie recalls the birthday she had with Joel years ago. She enjoys a natural history museum with dinosaurs, pretends to be in space, and tells jokes. The flashback ends with Joel teaching Ellie how to play the guitar, as he promised in season one. The episode returns to the present in the final scene, with Ellie in the theater’s front row serenading Dina in her Take on Me with A-ha.

Episode 6 Hillcrest and the Hospital

Ellie finds a radio at the theater and hears a WLF message about a man seen in the suburbs near Hillcrest who matches Tommy’s description. She heads there to find him, but to her surprise she is caught by Jesse, who helps her escape the WLF patrol.

The pair return to the theater together, where Dinah tells Jesse that she is pregnant with her child. Jessie reveals that she has Nora, one of Abby’s colleagues stationed at a Seattle hospital, as her clue. He agrees to stay with Dina while Ellie goes looking for Nora. Ellie, who was initially seeking information on Abby’s whereabouts, kills Nora in a brutal fashion, left to her revenge.

Episode 7 – Road to the Aquarium and Joel’s Truth Flashback

Ellie and Jesse, who got clues from Nora that Abby would stay at the aquarium from time to time, continue towards the coast. They encounter the Infected in a tense and terrifying scene before a violent rainstorm rolls in. Blinded by her mission, however, Ellie refuses and decides to advance towards Abby alone through the storm.

Ellie reaches the shore and begins swimming towards the aquarium, but is knocked unconscious by crashing waves. Her episode ends with a flashback of Ellie finding out the truth behind Joel’s decision to rescue her from a firefly back in Salt Lake City.

Episode 8 – Abby’s Revelation and Return

The Season 2 finale ends with a culmination of all the little flashbacks from young Abby’s perspective. It is revealed that her father was the Firefly doctor who killed Joel just before he operated on Ellie.

Back in the present day, Ellie wakes up dazed by an aquarium and goes inside. After nervously making her way through the building, she finds a back room where Owen and Mel (another group of Abbies who were present at Joel’s murder) are talking. Ellie asks where Abby is before she kills them both in cold blood, but she quickly becomes distraught after she discovers Mel is pregnant. She collapses to her floor just as Tommy and Jesse arrive to comfort her.

Back at the theater, Ellie convinced Dina and Jesse that now was the time to leave everything behind and go back to Jackson. They head to the theater lobby only to see Jesse shot dead right in front of him. Ellie finally comes face to face with Abby. The scene cuts to black and the season ends on a cliffhanger.

So I think that could happen in Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us. For more on The Last of Us, check out his full review of Season 1, or just how good the show compares to the game.
