The Last Of Us Remake Permadeath Mode Revealed Alongside a Host Of Other Improvements

With the release of The Last of Us Part 1, it was a complete remake of the original 2012 release of the PlayStation 3, and there were many questions about how much it would actually change. But based on New video The answer Naughty Dog released today is “plenty.”

Last Of Us Director Neil Druckmann played a central role in outlining some of the biggest enhancements to his beloved classic, from graphical enhancements to improved accessibility. The team also outlined many new features, including:

  • New perm death mode
  • Speed run mode that allows the player to time the run
  • Joel and Erie’s unlockable costumes
  • Enhanced photo mode
  • Model viewer mode

This is in addition to major changes to AI, graphics, and controls aimed at enhancing The Last Of Us at almost every level. For example, the remake uses the tactile sensation of DualSense to add tension as Erie pulls the strings, and to enhance the tactile sensation of Joel and Erie petting the giraffe.

Naughty Dog hopes that these changes will make The Last Of Us Remake “much better” than the original game, as Druckmann says.

Last Of Us Part 1 was first seen during the Summer Game Fest after some leaks. After that, I checked the updated version running on PS5. Critics wondered if The Last Of Us needed a complete remake just 10 years after its first release, but Naughty Dog argues it’s more than just a “cash earner.”

“This is the definitive way to play The Last of Us,” says Druckmann.

When released on PlayStation 5 and PC on September 2, you can see for yourself how much The Last Of Us Remake has been enhanced.
