The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Release Date, Gameplay, and What We Know So Far

After years of waiting, we finally learned that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be officially called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Announced at the major Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022, the long-awaited sequel comes out next year, so here’s everything we know about this legendary title.

When is the Tears of the Kingdom release date?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel was given a 2022 release window at E3 2021, but has since been pushed back to 2023. Release date May 12, 2023.

The date was announced along with this short (and mysterious) new trailer that also confirmed its title: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We’ve hinted at waiting, but it’s not entirely clear what the official title will spoil.

Tears of the Kingdom First Teaser Trailer

Nintendo first revealed that a Breath of the Wild sequel is in development with a short teaser trailer at E3 2019.

Finally, during the Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022, Nintendo finally confirmed that the sequel to Breath of the Wild will be called “Tears of the Kingdom.”

The trailer begins with a close-up of a stone mural, with what appears to be a woman who could be the goddess Hylia. Then there’s a wider shot showing some Bokoblins and Moblins descending on top of some warriors and red energy or designs surrounding them. Back to the mid shot of the goddess-like figure. These are similar to the Amber and Twilight Relics found in Skyward Swords used as crafting materials.
