Why Genshin Impact’s Dendro Element Took So Long to Arrive

When Genshin Impact was first launched, it included playable characters of six elements: Pyro (Fire), Hydro (Water), Anemo (Wind), Electro (Electricity), Cryo (Ice) and Geo (Earth). However, those who pay no heed to the lore of Genshin. You’ve probably noticed that some of its monsters, or even loading screens, don’t seem to have the 7th element working: dendro, or nature.

In the first two major Genshin Impact chapters, Dendro remained elusive. But with the introduction of 3.0 and the dendro-focused Continental Sumeru, we can finally get a taste of the green. Archers Koray and Tignari started Dendro with the Traveler and acquired Dendro elements through Sumaru’s storyline. More elements are in the works.

But why did it take developer miHoYo so long to introduce Dendro, especially when everything else was there from the beginning? what about the dendro?

In an interview with IGN, a Genshin Impact spokesperson shed a little light on exactly why Dendro took so long to join the Elemental Brothers and why the character’s rollout was a bit slow. .

The Dendro element is the final piece of the seven-element system puzzle. It is also a representative element of Sumeru, the land of wisdom. So when designing the element’s reaction mechanics, I wanted the element to provide more depth of gameplay, allowing for multiple element reactions.

However, at the time of design, we were unable to come up with a novel mechanic that would satisfy the development team. As the development of the Sumer area progressed, more ideas and inspiration were gathered in constant refinement. By tying the Dendro element with the Pyro/Hydro/Electro element more deeply, we ensured that the reactions of the elements were reflected not only in the character, but also in Sumeru’s entire ecological environment.

For example, there are many plants and creatures that have dendro characteristics. Such plants and organisms have the potential to exhibit polymorphic transformations that alter their appearance, function and even behavior. This is also why we released the Dendro element with its main nation.

So for Dendro, mostly miHoYo wanted multi-element interactions, but had trouble coming up with something suitable until Sumeru’s development got some inspiration.

The core concepts of the Dendro element have always been catalysis, wisdom and life. However, the in-game presentation of its gameplay has been repeated many times over time. and includes enough strategy and gameplay variety to tie more elements together.

Sumeru, Dendro, and everything else we saw in 3.0 come as part of Genshin Impact’s ongoing 10-year roadmap of content that began at launch. MiHoYo said that she “has a pretty clear long-term plan in mind” that she can’t share due to spoilers. , Pyro, and Hydro) are likely to visit each continent. MiHoYo asserts that Dendro is “the final piece of the seven-element system’s puzzle”, so it’s unlikely we’ll get any new surprises, but we do know that more dendro characters will be added in the future. And there is no doubt that more interesting elemental interactions will be added.

We also spoke with miHoYo about their plans to bring back limited-time seasonal events that have already been completed. For more details, you can see some of the upcoming new characters in 3.1 and his Genshin review at launch.
