World of Warcraft Mobile Game Reportedly Cancelled by Blizzard After Finance Dispute

The World of Warcraft mobile game has reportedly been quietly canceled due to a funding dispute.

according to bloombergthe upcoming smartphone game has been in development for three years and is now canceled due to a dispute between Activision Blizzard and NetEase.

A source close to the deal said, “The two companies disagreed on terms and ultimately called for the cancellation of the secret project.”

Called “Neptune” by those working on it, the project was said to be a Warcraft spin-off set at a different time than World of Warcraft. It is unknown if it was directly tied to either Warcraft, Warcraft II, or Warcraft III.

The good news is that it No Warcraft Arclight Rumble – A mobile “tower offense” game due for release later this year.

Back in February of this year, Activision Blizzard revealed it was working on multiple mobile Warcraft titles. This was thought to be one of the big reasons why Microsoft bought the company for a reported $69 billion earlier this year.

These mobile games now appear to be in the air. Ultimately, the extent of Activision Blizzard’s partnership with NetEase after this high-profile cancellation is unclear. Another mobile game from Activision Blizzard, Pokemon GO style AR gamewas also canceled.

NetEase now publishes World of Warcraft in China and is also developing the popular yet controversial mobile game Diablo Immortal. Nevertheless, Activision Blizzard is going to be a huge success with this game, where he made $24 million in the first two weeks.

It remains to be seen if Activision Blizzard and NetEase will continue to develop Warcraft mobile titles. But for now, Warcraft Arclight Rumble is still going full steam ahead. And his popular Warcraft franchise seems set to keep making them big bucks.
