Xbox Made a Fancy Controller Out of Actual Jade

To celebrate Wo Long: Fallen Princess coming to consoles, Microsoft has created a gorgeous Xbox controller out of real Jade.

Xbox has posted a video demonstrating the creation of the controller. This required jade craftsman Andy Qi to forge the gamepad using specialized equipment.

“As a jade craftsman, I can’t be more proud if I can make very elaborate jade products and people will preserve them for a long time or forever,” Qi said prior to the project. rice field.

Creating the world’s first jade video game controller was of course a challenge. Mr. Qi split the controller shell into eight pieces, of which he spent almost a week cutting two before he discovered the crack. “Because of his mistakes, he started over and over again,” he said.

Chi also had to make sure that the jade surface was comfortable for the player to use, and that it was capable of all the usual functions one would expect from a gamepad. “When pressing those directional buttons, we made sure that the buttons do not contact the jade, but instead contact the plastic, so the jade will not be damaged during extended gameplay,” said Qi. .

The jade controller is not for sale and joins the ranks of Xbox’s unique (and sometimes bizarre) controllers like the fluffy Sonic the Hedgehog controller released last year.

In honor of Earth Day in April, the company also announced an Xbox Wireless Controller made “partly out of” recycled CDs, jugs and other Xbox controller parts.
