Yakuza 8: First Images Reveal Returning Characters From Like a Dragon

The first image of Yakuza 8 has been released online, revealing that various characters are returning from the previous entry “Yakuza: Like a Dragon”.

As reported by Famitsu, Behind-the-scenes video YouTuber and MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura toured the studio of Hong Studio by developer Ryu, and briefly introduced the dragon heroes Kasuga Ichiban, Koichi Adachi, and Yu Minamiha in a new game (below).

I heard that Yakuza 8 will be installed in a new town, and I also learned that Asakura himself will appear as a character. Kasuga has also transformed a little, and now it seems that her hair is tied behind her instead of the iconic wild hairstyle.

This is the first good information we got about the Yakuza 8 as it was just confirmed that the dragon was under development at Hong Studio in November 2021.

Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama has confirmed a bit that the new game will be a continuation of the dragon story set a few years later. Therefore, it makes sense that the protagonists Kasuga, Adachi, and Namba have appeared in this new video.

We also know that after seven action-based yakuza games, Yakuza 8 remains a turn-based RPG after Like a Dragon switches to the genre. In a 7/10 review, IGN said: “Yakuza: Like a dragon, we’ve taken a bold step in a new direction in the series, but we’re neglecting to maintain balance.”
