‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2, Episode 7 Recap: Punch-Drunk

Back in the 1990s, when Misty hears Mari and Akira talking about Krystal’s disappearance, she sticks to old nonsense. Their conversation begins with compliments praising Misty for handling Shauna’s childbirth calmly, but Mari speculates that Misty “did something” to Krystal, leading to her usual criticism.

Trying to save face, Misty suggests they search for the crystal, fully aware of the consequences now that the snow has stopped. But that plan goes awry when Gen (Maia Lowe) and Melissa (Jenna Burgess) suggest that finding Krystal’s corpse won’t be the worst, at least because it will give them more food. put away. Not wanting to eat her best friend, Misty slips out of the search group in fake sobs and searches for the body herself. Although she failed to find the crystal, she finally encountered Coach Ben, whose despair had reached breaking point.

He is about to jump to his death from the same cliff that caused Crystal’s death, but Misty appears and stops him. Her first tactic is the threat of “if you die, I’ll eat you.” She plans to tell her parents that he tried to get them all pregnant once they are all rescued. She will tell everyone he is gay. “Go for it,” he says to the final threat. The only thing that stopped him was Misty’s tearful plea that “I can’t face death any longer.”

What she says may be true in some ways. He thinks she’s talking about the baby. We know her guilt runs deeper than that.

Despite the flashbacks, slashes, and hallucinations featuring his lover Paul, Ben’s storyline remains thin this season, and the fact that his pivotal moment turns out to be Misty’s showcase makes it all the better. is emphasized. It was Misty’s honesty, not his own revelations, that ultimately pulled him off the ledge.

The tone of the 1990s scenes in this episode is very different from the tone of scenes set in the 2020s. And it’s not just because the current scene features the high-end television sequence “Pink Elephant on Parade.” In the wilderness, girls fall into a sense of loss. Shona exists in a haze, unable to distinguish fact from reality. She searches the barn for Jackie and lashes out at her teammates who she still thinks may have eaten her child. Finally, Lottie offers herself literally as a punching bag for Shawna’s wrath, and Shawna wails at her and slaps her face until her face swells up to her blood.
