Elden Ring Claims ‘Over 9 Billion Deaths’ Since Release

Bandai Namco continues to celebrate Elden Ring’s first anniversary by sharing a morbid but hilarious story Infographic The number of times a player died in-game. Spoiler alert: they have killed him over 9 billion times so far.

There are a thousand ways to die, but the publisher created a pie chart to narrow it down to four in-game causes of death. According to the graph, damage from enemies and his NPCs, including boss fights, is the leading cause of in-game death at 69%. The infographic reveals that the player has attempted to fight Malenia 329 million times. That number may not reveal how many players died at her hand, but it also doesn’t tell you exactly how many players beat her.

Meanwhile, players have fought Margit the Fell Omen 281 million times, Rimgrave Tree Sentinel 277 million times, Ladagon of the Golden Order 148 million times, and Starscourge Ladarn 139 million times.

The second leading cause of death is status effects inflicted during combat (15%), including poison, scarlet rot, blood loss, frostbite, sleep, madness, and death sickness. The third leading cause of death is athlete fall death (14%). The final cause of death is that the player is killed by another player, but there is only a 2% chance of that happening.

This infographic comes almost three weeks after FromSoftware announced it would be making the first major expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree. It doesn’t say exactly when the expansion will be released, so fans should check the release date.
