The Elder Scrolls 6 could be the last game in Todd Howard’s fantasy series, Bethesda president said. Speaking to IGN ahead of Starfield Direct, Howard, 52, spoke about the length of time it takes Bethesda Game Studios to make a game.
Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios’ first new intellectual property in over 25 years and the first major release since Fallout 4 launched in 2015, eight years ago.
Bethesda Game Studios has grown significantly since then, with four studios (Rockville, Montreal, Austin, and Dallas) and several partners signed, but this expansion doesn’t necessarily speed up development. No, argued Howard.
The Eldser Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 with the following teaser video. Howard has confirmed that he will follow Starfield, but no release date has been announced yet.
In a 2022 interview with IGN, Howard said Fallout 5 would be the next game after Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls 6, but he clarified his comments. and now said: [Fallout 5] Obviously Elder Scrolls 6 and beyond…at some point in the future. “
What is clear is that Bethesda Game Studios titles take years to develop, something Howard has lamented in the past. But Howard argued that the most important thing was to give these games the time they needed, and that long delays between releases for games like Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto had a negative impact on the series. pointed out that it does not.
“Do you think Half-Life 3 will be okay?” Howard said. “So at the moment, how do we bring it closer to reality today, because I want to play it, those gaps, these are still evergreen franchises, and when they come, I think it’s about doing it right. .
“I want to be faster, but speed is not my goal.”
In that situation, and with long-term support plans for Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 in mind, Howard began to wonder how many games he had left in his mind.

Based on the performance of Bethesda’s development schedule, ThelderScrolls6 could end up skipping current-gen consoles entirely. Whether it’s Fallout 5 or anything else Bethesda Game Studios releases after The Ellders 6 seems certain to launch on Microsoft’s next-gen console. And then? Assuming ThelderScrolls7 is the game BethesdaGameStudios is trying to make, it could come out 20 years from now.
