Final Fantasy 7 NFT Trading Cards on the Way From Square Enix

Square Enix has announced a set of collectible trading cards to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII. It is also available digitally as an NFT.

The FINAL FANTASY VII Anniversary Art Museum Digital Card Plus Collection, available March 31st, features “art, visuals, and great scenes” from the game’s 25-year history. VGC reportedeach 440 yen ($3.30) pack contains 6 physical cards and 1 digital exchange card that displays an alphanumeric code.

According to the Square Enix websiteThe collection consists of 99 trading cards, 3 another normal cards, 102 premium cards (normal cards and another card foil specifications), and 3 secret cards for a total of 207 types.

Purchasers must use the Enjin Wallet cryptocurrency smartphone application to claim ownership of the digital card. According to Square Enix, it will be possible to obtain NFT versions of each of the 207 cards in the collection, which can be viewed on a smartphone or PC once redeemed.

Square Enix says cards cannot be transferred or resold to third parties initially. However, a warning post on the product information page suggests this may be possible in a future update “If we decide to support the market in the future, we will notify you about this. [Square Enix’s] website”.

The company also warns that there is a March 31, 2024 deadline for redeeming NFTs, and that “once the service is terminated in the future, you may not be able to view or use your digital card.”

This isn’t the first time Square Enix has dabbled in NFTs. In November 2022, the company announced the “NFT Collectible Art” experience Symbiogenesis. It is currently scheduled for release in Spring 2023.
