Gotham Knights Proves TMNT Deserves the Triple-A Treatment

This week’s reveal trailer for Mutant Mayhem gets us super excited for the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the big screen, but most of all it makes us want a new TMNT game. As much as I loved The Revenge, this is one pop culture franchise that desperately needs a triple-A game treatment. No, adding a shredder to Call of Duty doesn’t count (and bringing a man made of knives into a shootout doesn’t make much sense). You’ve got an incredible AAA open world co-op action game that captures all the fun of TMNT. As it happens, Batman’s character, Gotham, was centered around his Knights.

Four masked vigilantes take to the streets, using their martial arts skills and gadgets to fight crime. Blue’s leader, purple’s tech expert, red’s brusque and hot-tempered heavy hitter, and of course the youngest member of the team provide comic relief. , parking a very toy-like vehicle, chilling out with video games, and being guided and reprimanded by an older tea-drinking mentor. They battle a variety of animal-themed villains, but their biggest threat is a gang of ruthless assassins operating from the shadows, with high-ranking members who can literally chop you up. .

All of the above applies to both Gotham Knights and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One of the reasons I can’t miss this one is that the last big Triple-A non-Lego non-Cartoon DC game was Injustice 2. Up as DLC. We’ve already seen Raph and Leo take on Harley and Mr. Freeze, but now let’s see them hopping across skyscraper rooftops looking for street punk gangsters to beat.

There are many reasons why Gotham Knights isn’t a TMNT game. First and foremost, WB has full ownership of his DC character, while TMNT is owned by Nickelodeon and Nick is a subsidiary of WB’s competitor He is one, Paramount Global. WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav is traditionally not good at talking about animals that solve mysteries, so maybe that’s part of it. (Okay, not really, but he’s shelved the scoob!: Holiday Hunt and I still agonize over it.)

TMNT doesn’t have as much luck as Batman in the triple-A arena, so Paramount may not think pouring millions of dollars into game development is a top priority.

WB Interactive also cracked the code to create a solid Batman game. The lofty expectations set by the Arkham series may have ultimately worked against Gotham Knights’ reputation, but it’s also what paved the way for it in the first place. Not having as much luck as Batman in A’s arena, Paramount executives may not think pouring millions into game development is exactly their top priority.

That said, between the massive success of Shredders’ Revenge and the potential for Mutant Mayhem to wield some turtle power at the box office, it’s only a matter of time before a gigantic, gigantic modern TMNT game emerges from the shadows. maybe.

In the meantime, I think you need to use your imagination. Professor Pig can pretend to be Bop, Man his bat to Wingnut, and Clayface to McMan. With any luck, someone might create a PC mod that mutates Gotham his Knights into his TMNT game. After all, if someone made a mod that allowed him to play Spider-Man as his IGN’s Gotham Knights review score, anything is possible. Kowabunga!
