Rumors about Mortal Kombat 12 have already started circulating ahead of an official announcement from Netherrealm Studios, after being teased by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon.
A few days ago, Boone posted a short video on Twitter of a clock counting down something. Mortal Kombat 12. The clock reaches almost 12 hours and an explosion detonates and lands at “1”.
Today, another Twitter account linked to an earlier PSN leak, @billbil_kun, claims that the next Grizzly fighter will be titled Mortal Kombat 1, making the “1” in Boon’s video a little more important. It seems like something

“NetherRealm Studios / WB Games’ next Mortal Kombat game will be named Mortal Kombat 1,” wrote @billbil_kun, followed by a bulleted list of specifics.

The tweet also stated that an official announcement “should be coming soon” and that the game is only intended for this generation of consoles. There is no Kollector’s Edition available on Switch either, the expensive package only includes physical releases.

Details like price, platform and title may be gleaned easily at first glance, but Mortal Kombat 12’s first ‘announcement’ is still more surprising. Last February, news broke during an earnings call that the Netherrealm was planning a new Mortal Kombat later this year. Warner Bros. executive mentions title by name.
