Sega Is Looking to Adapt Atlus Games for Live-Action TV and Movies – Including Persona

Sega aims to extend it further to movies and television by exploring potential live-action adaptations of games developed by Atlas.

In its exclusive announcement to IGN, SEGA states that expanding the format of storytelling is a new and important part of SEGA’s overall business strategy. That’s why Sega publishes a library of Atlas’ acclaimed games. This includes series such as Megami Tensei, Persona, and Catherine, which may be adapted to live-action movies and television.

“The world of Atlas is full of high drama, cutting-edge style and fascinating characters,” says Toru Nakahara, lead producer of the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie and Sonic Prime TV series Sega. .. “Story like the Persona series really resonates with fans and gives us the opportunity to expand folklore that no one has ever seen or played.”

“Sega and Atlas are working together to bring these stories and the world to life for new media and new audiences,” said Nakahara, who is also responsible for entertainment production for Sega’s films and television. I add.

Sega wasn’t sure which production company they were interested in, other than saying they were currently exploring live-action film and television projects with various studios and producers.

Atlus was founded in Tokyo in 1986 and is famous for its character and story-driven JRPGs. One of its most popular franchises is Persona, a series centered around high school students who encounter the power of the occult that threatens the world. The latest entry into the franchise, Persona 5 Royal, is one of the most acclaimed RPGs of its generation. Check out IGN’s Persona 5 Royal Review here.

The Persona series is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and recent games such as Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable have expanded to new consoles such as PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Previous experience with Sega’s live-action film adaptation resulted in commercial hits like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but the first Sonic release wasn’t smooth. Sega isn’t the only one trying to adapt video games to television and movies. Sony is leveraging game franchises for television adaptations such as The Last of Us, Horizon, and God of War.

However, given Sega’s proven success in live-action adaptation, the company wants to repeat Sonic’s success in games like Persona.
