Sony Confirms Original PSVR Games Are Not Compatible with PSVR2

Sony has officially confirmed that the PSVR2 will not be able to play games made for the original PlayStation VR.

In the latest episode of Official PlayStation PodcastAt around 29:10 on , Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, confirmed that PSVR2 would not be backward compatible with the original PSVR games. PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2, as PSVR2 was designed to deliver a true next-gen VR experience.

“This means that developing games for PSVR2 requires a completely different approach than the original PSVR,” continued Nishino.

The news sounds amazing as Sony has created an adapter that will allow you to play the original PSVR games on the PlayStation 5, but it’s not quite. Additionally, last month Yasuo Takahashi and Kenjo Akiyama of Sony Interactive Entertainment talked about the hardware and specs of his PSVR2. Note that a rough stroke should make it easier for him to port games from his other VR headsets (like his original PSVR and Valve Index) to PSVR2.

PlayStation VR2 won’t launch until next year, with multiple games confirmed to be in development for the headset. VR among us Ghostbusters VR, Resident Evil Village, No Man’s Sky, VR version of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Additionally, sequels to our in-house games Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Firewall: Zero Hour are in development.
