Sony Has Quietly Redesigned the Inside of the PS5

Sony has apparently updated the internal design of its PlayStation 5 console, resulting in a more energy efficient console.

As reported by The BargeYouTube users Austin Evans We took the redesigned console apart and found that Sony has made some pretty significant changes. While not a rebranded update (similar to the PlayStation 4 Slim), Sony updated the PS5’s internals about once a year to make the machine more efficient (and possibly lower production costs). ).

The updated model’s motherboard has been reduced in size by about 2 inches, cooling has been altered with additional heat pipes and smaller heatsinks on the back of the console, and the SSD enclosure has also changed slightly.

Sony may have had other reasons to update the console, but Evans said in his video that the new PS5 uses about 20 to 30 watts less power while gaming, making it the best console to date. It claimed to be the most energy efficient version.

The new model comes just as Sony has increased the price of the PS5 in most major markets including the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and Mexico. It’s a challenge that many people are definitely experiencing,” the publisher said at the time.

However, Microsoft won’t follow suit with its Xbox Series consoles. The company has confirmed that it has no plans to raise prices despite the fact that its main competitors are doing so. Nintendo also revealed that it has no plans to raise prices to “avoid people pricing”, even though the Switch will also be more expensive to manufacture.
