What to Expect From Marvel in 2023: The MCU’s Phase 5, X-Men ’97 and More

Whether you play your superhero adventures on the big screen, stream them on your phone, or prefer good old comic books, 2023 has tons of Marvel content coming. MCU starts phase 5. Sony is working on a new live-action and animated Spider-Man movie, and Marvel is celebrating his 60th anniversary in one of the world’s biggest franchises.

From movies to TV series to comics to video games, here’s a breakdown of everything you can expect from Marvel in 2023.

Phase 5 of the MCU begins

2023 will be a pivotal year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is to mark the start of Phase 5 and the point at which the MCU will transition from introducing new heroes to building the foundation for Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023)

It all starts with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniac in February. In this latest sequel, not only does teenage Kathy Lang (now played by Kathryn Newton) suit up as tall with her father, but she also plays Jonathan Majors’ Can the Conqueror. It’s also her first MCU movie to feature her as a villain. This won’t be the last time we see him.

Quantomania also brings back Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne. Additionally, Bill Murray is in his MCU and is set to meet MODOK as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)

The next MCU movie on the agenda is the final installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, which hits theaters on May 5th. Expect many tearful farewells as director James Gunn bids farewell to the franchise and her entire MCU.

Guardians Vol. 3 follows Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his dysfunctional family in their search for the missing Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the High Evolutionary Leak (Chukdi Iwuji). Butt heads with a brilliant mad scientist known as This sequel will also introduce Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, but who knows how he’ll factor into his post-Infinity War MCU.

Marvels (July 28, 2023)

Marvels will wrap up a trio of new MCUs in 2023. This Captain Her Marvel sequel, which hits theaters on July 28, will feature Brie, her Larson heroine, and Teyonah Paris’ newly superpowered moniker, Rambo and Iman Verrani’s Ms. Her Marvel and team. Disney+ MCU series

Expect more MCU series to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2023. and Loki are set to get a second season, the latter exploring the aftermath of season one’s shocking finale and the death of those who remain.

Secret Invasion will be released in early 2023. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury finally takes on the lead role in this Dark Heir thriller as he struggles to uncover the truth about an alien conspiracy. In addition to returning favorites such as Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos and Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes, fans will love the rebellious Skrull Gravik (Kingsley Ben Adeel) and Fury’s We also meet old buddy Sonya Falstaff (Olivia Colman).

Alaqua Cox’s Echo will spin out into her own series in 2023. Both Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock are set to appear, making the series the perfect appetizer for her upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.

Dominic Thorne’s Ironheart will also have a spin-off show in 2023. Black Panther: Wakanda Set after her Forever, Ironheart takes Lili her Williams back to her hometown of Chicago to battle a superhuman crook known as the Hood (Anthony Ramos).

And finally, we expect Agatha: Coven of Chaos to round out the MCU’s 2023 lineup. The series, starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, is perhaps the closest thing to Season 2 of WandaVision. But will Wanda herself make an appearance? We know that the series also stars Aubrey Plaza and Joe Locke.

Sony’s Spider-Man universe grows

Even if Morbius doesn’t make the strongest claim to 2022’s so-called “Sony’s Spider-Man universe,” Sony is still in the Marvel movie business.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (June 2, 2023)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse finally hits theaters on June 2nd. This sequel to his 2018 critically acclaimed Into the Spider-Verse promises to up the ante with a few more Spider-heroes, including Issa Rae as Spider-Woman and Including Daniel Kaluuya as a spiderpunk.

This time, Miles and his multiverse friends are battling The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), but our spider senses tell us he’s not the only villain to threaten these worlds. Remember, Across the Spider-Verse leads directly to 2024’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Kraven the Hunter (October 6, 2023)

As for Sony’s live-action lineup, Kraven the Hunter is the next iconic villain to get his own live-action movie. Fred Hechinger plays Sergei’s half-brother Chameleon. As usual, we don’t expect Spidey himself to make an appearance, but we do expect some sort of connection to the Venom and Morbius films.

X-Men’s Big Anniversary

With 2023 celebrating the 60th anniversary of the original X-Men #1, we can expect Marvel to give our favorite mutants plenty of love all year long.

X-Men ’97 (Fall 2023)

This includes a ton of ’90s nostalgia with the debut of X-Men ’97 on Disney+. to start. Magneto is in command of his X-Men, and numerous enemies, old and new, are trying to ruin Charles’ Xavier dreams. Many of the surviving voice actors are returning for a new series, this time seemingly aimed at an older audience. Examine you.

Dark Web & Sins of Sinister (Early 2023)

On the comics side, Marvel continues to bet big on the X-Men series in 2023, with ongoing series like X-Men, Immortal X-Men and X-Men Red continuing the big changes it has brought. looking for positive impact. Returning to 2019’s House of X and Powers of X. Earlier this year, we can expect two major X-Men crossovers. But the biggest X-Men comic of 2023 is undoubtedly Fall of X. But after watching the Krakoan dream slowly crumble due to civil war and betrayal, it sounds like things are about to crumble violently for the X-Men.

That’s not to say Marvel Comics will focus entirely on the X-Men in 2023. It’s shaping up to be a transformative year for many long-running franchises, including Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Spring 2023)

Once the dust on the dark web has settled, The Amazing Spider-Man readers can get some answers to one of 2022’s biggest mysteries. Why did Mary Jane break things up again? Writer Zeb Wells reveals all in the new year.

Symbiote Summer (Summer 2023)

There’s also another Spider-Man crossover brewing for Summer 2023, this time reuniting Spidey with his old frenzy Venom. Hmm, it seems like a ticket for those who can’t get enough symbiotes.

Jason Aaron’s Avengers Finale (Spring 2023)

Elsewhere, Jason Aaron will end his five-year run on the flagship Avengers series this spring, as the Avengers across the Multiverse band together to battle Mephisto. That epic saga ends in April, and there’s no doubt that Marvel will be releasing a new monthly Avengers comic from a new creative team.

Captain America: Cold War (early 2023)

Marvel is also gearing up for Cold War, a crossover of two Captain America books that deals with the growing threat of an organization known as the Outer Circle. Expect a lot of big developments in the coming months, including reveals.

Scarlet Witch (January 2023)

And finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Scarlet Witch, a new monthly series that showcases Wanda Maximoff’s killer new costumes and a very different reality. as well as joining forces with the one-of-a-kind Darcy Lewis, who will finally make the jump from the MCU to the world of Marvel’s comics.

Marvel’s 2023 Games

It’s hard to believe that 2023 will be Marvel’s biggest year in the video game space, but there’s one big gun to watch next year.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Fall 2023)

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to Insomniac’s blockbuster 2018 game, is currently set to release in the fall. However, as we’ve seen many times in this COVID era, no release date has been set.

In Spider-Man 2, players can control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The game introduces Venom into the world of Insomniac, voiced by Candyman himself Tony Todd. And based on how the first game ended, we’re guessing that it’s actually Harry Osborn that’s underneath those big muscles and giant jaw.

Other Marvel games

There’s zero chance that Insomniac will release a Wolverine game next year, but we’d love to get a closer look at their latest Marvel project.

The same goes for other mystical Marvel games in the pipeline, EA’s Iron Man, Skydance’s Captain America and Black Panther games. Hopefully, we can wrap up the year knowing a lot more about what to expect from these major Marvel games.
