The Xbox Series S is pretty widely available now, and has been for quite some time. If you don’t mind digital only gaming and some power tradeoffs this is actually a pretty good way to get into next gen gaming if you already have an Xbox Series X Series S is perfect as his second TV.

Prepare your account at any retail store
Make sure you’re signed in to all major retail sites on any device you might use to purchase your next-gen console. It’s also wise to keep credit cards on file. This saves you from having to enter your details while the clock is ticking while you’re trying to check out.
Speaking of retailers, each major retailer has its own quirks for dealing with when the Xbox Series X and S restock.
Amazon
Amazon is all about surprises. Online retailers never announce when new Xbox stock will arrive and become available. When the new console comes out, Amazon will simply switch the “sold out” button to “add to cart” so anyone who sees it in time can try adding it to their cart. The trick is to follow IGN Deals or another Twitter account dedicated to that sort of thing.

Best Buy also tends to get new inventory out of the blue. Press the button to add Xbox Series X or S to your cart. If you’re lucky, go straight to the cash register. If you’re unlucky, the “Add to Cart” button will turn gray and after a few minutes it will turn yellow again and you’ll have to tap the button again. A lucky few will proceed to checkout, but the rest will have to wait until the button turns yellow again and try again until all inventory is sold out.
