Team Ninja Would Outsource a New Ninja Gaiden Game, But Only If It Would ‘Exceed Expectations’

Team Ninja has said it is open to outsourcing its own IP, such as Ninja Gaiden, to other studios, as long as the games it develops can exceed fan expectations.

and Interview with VGC, Team Ninja’s Fumihiko Yasuda – the director of the upcoming Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – said: Really enjoy and exceed their expectations. “

Yasuda says that existing IPs like Ninja Gaiden have large fan bases, but Team Ninja will balance resources within the studio, such as checking what skills members of the development team currently have. From there, determine if those skills fit with existing IP or with brand new IP.

He is also open to handing off potential new Ninja Gaiden games to a team of young developers within Team Ninja. However, neither decision is made lightly. “It’s not just a matter of ‘Let’s do this’. All the pieces have to fit and it has to be the right team…either a young team inside or it has to really fit into the ninja gaiden pedigree. It’s one of the other companies,” Yasuda explained.

Team Ninja is understandably wary of such thoughts. The last time Ninja Gaiden was outsourced – his 2014 Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z-series, created by California studio Spark Unlimited, was marred with bad reviews, including a 5.6 from IGN.

Ninja Gaiden’s latest entry was the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection for June 2021. Team Ninja is currently focused on Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch next year. PlayStation 5.
